East Turkey – Van fortress

Van fortress lies closer to the Van lake than the present city centre. I did not find the fortress itself interesting and not worth the effort, even if the oldest part is from the Uraritan period. But I found a steep rock wall with cunei-form writing and that gave me a sense of history.  South of the fortress was the old Armenian quarter but there was almost nothing left. Under the ruins from the Armenian quarter lies the capital of the Uraritan empire, Tushpa. Actually a sad sight.
