The Andes mountains have a western and eastern range in Ecuador. Between them lies the high plateau. To the east of the eastern range is the Amazon basin with rain forest and to the west of the western range is the coastal plain. This means that moist air comes from the jungle and makes clouds around the eastern range and moist air from the Pacific clouds the western range. So we did not see much of the mountains, they were hidden in clouds. So in addition to rain forest it was cloud forest.
Behind the clouds there is a vulcano eruption with ash.
The area between the mountin ranges is called “vulcano alley” and we drove up to a crater lake. (3500 meters above sea level)
On the western range the moist air made spectacular cloud formation on the mountainside.
